The center of this trilogy unique in its subject matter are fascinating stories about a girls’ soccer team. Even though a soccer team normally consists of eleven players, the books focus on four girls and their development. The friends have to prevail in an environment in which they have to fight hard for being taken seriously. The stories are about respect, conquering a presumably male domain, about loyalty and rivalry. They also tell of everyday life issues such as friendships, first love, jealousy, stress at school and domestic conflicts. The protagonists age during the course of the trilogy and live through different phases of puberty. The reader gets a chance to grow up together with the girls. The authors: Claudia Ondracek used to work as an editor at a children’s book publisher for five years and has been writing children’s books herself since 1998. Martina Schrey has been a radio, TV and print media journalist for twenty years. Both authors are big soccer fans.
