Art and artists accompanied the educated citizen Theodor Heuss (1884–1963) throughout his life. From the beginning of his journalistic and political career, he was a friend and companion of numerous artists, architects, and designers, including Hans Purrmann, Albert Weisgerber, Reinhold Nägele, and Richard Riemerschmid. In the 1920s, Heuss worked as a cultural functionary. After the Second World War, as Minister of Culture in Württemberg-Baden, he significantly shaped the new beginning at the Stuttgart Art Academy before becoming a much-portrayed political star as the first Federal President. And that's not all: Heuss himself was a passionate and diligent draftsman.
