Bernini

For a long time, the portrait of an old man from the collection of the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna was considered the work of an anonymous painter – until it could now be attributed to the great Baroque artist Gian Lorenzo Bernini. This spectacular new discovery is at the heart of the exhibition Bernini – Painting and Marble in Palais Lobkowitz. The richly illustrated catalog traces the exciting search for clues surrounding the work and sheds new light on Bernini: as a portrait painter. In dialogue with high-caliber international loans of paintings, drawings, and sculptures, a fresh perspective opens up on one of Italy's most important artists of the 17th century.
