About the Author

Paschalis Dougalis

Paschalis Dougalis was born and raised in northern Greece. From an early age, he was fascinated by drawing, animals, and nature. His first artworks were created in childhood. He is one of the best bird illustrators in Europe.

The discovery of an English-language bird guide in 1992 was a revelation for him. From then on, birds dominated his work. A book series on endangered species in Greece (1995) finally established him as a book illustrator.

Since 1997, Paschalis Dougalis has been living and drawing in Munich. His focus is not solely on the exact depiction of an animal, but especially on capturing its character and personality.

Paschalis Dougalis has received several awards: Silver Owl 2003 and Bird Illustrator of the Year 2001, 2002.

In addition to various exhibitions, projects, and international publications, he even finds time to accompany exploratory trips for birdwatchers to Greece. Drawing workshops are also planned for 2016 at the Munich Zoo.
