About the Author
Cornelis Hemmer
Cornelis Hemmer (born 1963) studied biology and geography and is a trained farmer. He has been active in nature conservation for 30 years – both professionally and voluntarily. While his wife and co-author, Corinna Hölzer, became self-employed with a media agency for ecologically sustainable development after completing her doctorate in New Zealand, Cornelis Hemmer worked, among other things, at the Institute for Wildlife Research, for the Hanover Parks and Gardens Department, and for various (environmental) associations. Interdisciplinary communication and networking of different stakeholders have always been important to both authors. In September 2010, they founded the non-profit Foundation for People and Environment in Berlin. Under this patronage, they have since built up the "Deutschland summt!" (Germany Buzzes!) initiative. With the bee as an ambassador, they are promoting more urban nature. For many years, Corinna Hölzer and Cornelis Hemmer have been imparting basic knowledge on sustainability and nature conservation in a wide variety of communication formats. Since 2010, they have been particularly captivated by wild and honey bees and natural gardens. Their book aims to help as many people as possible discover the world of bees and their (endangered) habitats.
