About the Author

Corinna Hölzer

Dr. Corinna Hölzer (born 1965) is a behavioral biologist and founder of GreenMediaNet. She has been actively involved in nature conservation for 30 years—both professionally and voluntarily. While her husband and co-author, Cornelis Hemmer, worked at the Institute for Wildlife Research, for the Hanover Parks and Gardens Department, and for various (environmental) associations, among others, Corinna Hölzer became self-employed after her doctorate in New Zealand, running a media office for ecologically sustainable development. Interdisciplinary communication and networking of different stakeholders have always been important to both authors. In September 2010, they founded the non-profit Foundation for People and Environment in Berlin. Under its patronage, they have since been building up the "Deutschland summt!" (Germany Buzzes!) initiative. With the bee as an ambassador, they aim to promote more urban nature. Corinna Hölzer and Cornelis Hemmer have been conveying basic knowledge about sustainability and nature conservation for many years and through a wide variety of communication formats. Since 2010, wild and honey bees, as well as natural gardens, have particularly captivated them. Their book aims to help bring the world of bees and their (threatened) habitats closer to as many people as possible.
