Why are Greyhounds (Galgo Español) different – what is their fascination? These graceful and athletic dogs hunt by sight and are therefore also known as Sighthounds. It is the contrasts that define them: delicate yet powerful, calm yet energetic, distant yet affectionate. Their history dates back to the earliest human cultures, and they have retained this primal nature to this day. They lack the usual "will to please"; classic obedience cannot be expected from them. The soul of the sighthound primarily wants to run, and their gentle nature should not let us forget that they are hunting dogs. Furthermore, it should be considered that sighthounds from animal welfare organizations have a "previous life" as working dogs and were not socialized for a life as a house dog.
With this webinar, I show how the adaptability and attachment capacity of sighthounds can be addressed. The possibility of off-leash running is part of their species-appropriate keeping, and here it is important to find understandable ways of communication. Sighthounds, or Galgos, do not want to be bent to someone's will, but rather to be understood by their human for what they are: proud, independent, and incorruptible.
