Bird Identification: Common Large Gulls
Available immediately
The thought of large gulls sends a shiver down the spine of many a birdwatcher. But not because they are so terrifying: the large gull species – European Herring Gull, Yellow-legged Gull, Caspian Gull, Lesser Black-backed Gull, and Great Black-backed Gull – show a variety of different plumages and a wide range of variation. Assigning younger individuals, in particular, often causes us headaches. But with a little practice, you'll succeed!
The aim of the webinar is to reliably identify the five common large gulls of Central Europe and some rare visitors. We will learn, using photos and illustrations, how to pay attention to the right distinguishing features. Which characteristics are well-suited for differentiation and which are less so? We will also take a look at some unidentified gull photos from webinar participants, which you can submit in advance!
In this webinar, you will learn bird identification from a professional:
- What to look for in an unknown gull?
- How is age determined?
- What important features are there besides plumage?
- Where do which gull species occur?
- Books and other resources for gull identification
Who is this webinar suitable for?
For beginners and moderately advanced observers who want to learn more about identifying native large gulls.
