Varroa mite

Since the Eastern honeybee came to Europe from East Asia in the early 1970s, the Varroa mites introduced with it have posed one of the greatest threats to our bee colonies. Dr. Friedrich Pohl, a former bee disease expert and beekeeper, explains what the mites are all about, why they are so dangerous, and what beekeepers need to do to prevent the loss of entire colonies and minimize their spread when an infestation occurs and for prevention.
