Some dogs can't settle down. They sleep poorly, get up at night and wander around the house, hardly doze during the day, cannot relax and constantly demand attention and activity. Others startle awake, bite around them or appear very irritated. On the other hand, many owners themselves struggle with falling and staying asleep, cannot switch off and constantly feel "on edge".
These problems arise because neurobiological circuits responsible for relaxation, rest and balance are no longer able to function properly. This can have various causes, which we will examine together in the webinar.
This webinar takes participants into the world of Somnus, the Roman god of sleep, deep into the brain. There, we will look for the control centers for sleep, rest and relaxation and the causes of disorders in this area.
• How do we relax – neurobiologically speaking?
• Why are rest periods so important for dogs and humans?
• Why can't some dogs and humans settle down?
• How does lack of rest and sleep affect the brain?
• How can you calm the brain and help dogs and humans relax?
In this context, we will deal with the effects of stress, overstimulation, hyperactivity and overactivity, and also shed light on the influence of psychological disorders such as trauma-related disorders, generalized anxiety disorder, depression, ADHD and sleep disorders on the sleep and rest behavior of dogs and humans.
Learn in this webinar:
• to understand the neurobiological basis of sleep, rest and relaxation,
• why rest periods are essential for dogs (and humans),
• what effects sleep deprivation has on the brain and behavior,
• what causes sleep problems often underlie and
• approaches that can calm the brain and aid relaxation.
