Neophytes

Neophytes – these are plants that are not originally native to our region: the problematic Himalayan balsam as well as the useful apple tree. Based on floras and herbariums, gardener and plant expert Norbert Griebl has identified all neophytes that have naturalized here after 1492. In his comprehensive lexicon, he describes 473 main species and a similar number of secondary species, together with their origin, past and present use, and the reasons for their spread and naturalization.
