Experiencing the seasons mindfully and consciously connects us with the powers of natural rhythms. Burning incense at the winter solstice, in early spring at Candlemas, or in midsummer at St. John's Day gives us energy and brings us back to our center – we detach ourselves from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

The seasonal energy allows us to feel the full power of summer. But it is also clear: what is not fully ripe cannot be harvested. Only where the hot sun has ripened the fruits can seeds develop. The transition to the next phase of the year is a good time to reflect on what warms the soul: deep love for a person, familiar and intimate friendships, a stable social environment, daily joy in one's profession and work, harmony with oneself, laughter, cheerfulness. Here live light and abundance. But there are also unripe, overripe, or unpleasant "fruits" that cannot be harvested. What we can do now is – depending on our inner readiness – to use the still intense solar and fire energy to make a cut.
