Scent differentiation is a great and species-appropriate form of activity suitable for every dog, whether old, young, large, small, excitable, or with a handicap. In this nose work, dogs learn, with the help of a clicker, to accurately find and indicate a specific scent among numerous other distraction scents. Gradually, the dose is then reduced to just a few scent molecules. It is important for scent differentiation to have a correct build-up from the beginning: If the foundations are not solid, one will fail later in the training. Often, dog owners demand too much too quickly from their dogs and overwhelm them. This webinar helps you to avoid such mistakes and instead ensures that you and your dog have fun with your new hobby.
Matthias Mück will show you:
- how to successfully start with scent differentiation,
- how to structure the build-up for a reliable indication,
- how even excitable dogs can work concentrated and calmly,
- and how to avoid mistakes, frustration, and problems.
The Author
Matthias Mück, together with Katharina Nünninghoff, runs the Hundezentrum Schwarzwald. With his dogs, he is active in the rescue dog team both in area search and mantrailing, and gives courses and seminars on nose work, both at the dog center and at other dog schools. Scent differentiation, which also played a special role in his training, constitutes a significant part of this.
