Relaxed leash, relaxed mood! You could boil the topic down to that, but it's not that simple, because exciting neighbours ignite seeking behaviour, and when on a leash, they guarantee a taut leash.
Leash training on a short and long leash is a useful canine skill, because off-leash running is not always and everywhere possible: breeding and nesting season, nature conservation, a dog that disappears off-leash at the exciting horizon, are just a few striking arguments.
Ignited seeking wants to make its way, which quickly leads to frustration at both ends of the leash when leashed. Frustration stresses the dog's brain and it yearns even more to dive into the "wild" matter.
In the heat of the hunt, training for leash manners and alternative behaviours is out of the question, but how can we still manage to increase desired behaviour in "wild" neighbourhoods? Where fox and hare say good night, we want to slow down accelerated four-legged friends, and we'll take a closer look at how to achieve more looseness.
Learn in this webinar:
• Backgrounds on seeking, its compensation and regulation,
• how structure and curves on walks loosen the leash,
• where the reward spot should be to increase leash manners,
• which marker signals emphasise desired behaviour and how they help to slow down,
• which ingredients contribute to the success of a recipe for a relaxed leash,
• what to do when the sight of fox and hare drives the tension to a peak and
• why a relaxed leash and mood affect off-leash walking.
