Sprung from hunting work, the three retrieves of dummy training are not only popular among retrievers, spaniels, and pointing dogs; they have long since become a multifaceted activity for every dog. Small steps are of paramount importance not only in building the dummy basics, but also around the three retrieves and correct retrieving, small steps lead the team to the big training goal. Targets provide the dog with effective assistance: they support, structure, and ritualize the training steps and make dummy work stress- and frustration-free. With attractive and inviting locations, which are nothing more than targets, in the training luggage, the focus is on building various target behaviors, such as retrieving a dummy, the target for all senses!
Anja Fiedler explains,
• what dummy work is,
• the training basics: marker signals, needs-based rewards, targets, relaxation, and co.
• which learning forms are behind target training,
• how body targets, object targets, environmental targets… can be integrated into dummy work,
• the structure of the dummy basics: recall, stopping, heeling, steadiness, heelwork, …
• the target behavior retrieving: picking up, carrying, holding, and dropping
• step-by-step training around the three retrieves: marking, directing, and blind retrieves.
