One of the main tasks of a dog trainer is to modify a dog-human team. Regardless of whether clients come due to aggression, fear, or hunting problems, one of the steps that must be taken is to change the team. Ultimately, this means more and more dog trainers are becoming a kind of coach in dealing with the dog-human team. To work as a coach, it is essential to know yourself, your strengths and weaknesses, and to be able to reflect in conflict situations. It is also helpful to recognize people in their facets and to understand what drives them, how to motivate each person, or recognize their fears.
The DISC personality model is a personality classification usually used for team coaching. It serves to better understand oneself and others, to recognize strengths and behaviors, and to better assess individual weaknesses. This classification can be used not only very well for discussions with clients but also for classifying dogs.
