About the Author

Theodor Mebs

Dr. Theodor Mebs (d. 2017) studied biology, chemistry, and geography at the University of Bamberg and the Universities of Freiburg/Breisgau and Munich. He earned his doctorate with a thesis on the common buzzard. For many years, he worked in North Rhine-Westphalia as the head of the bird sanctuary in Essen, and later in Recklinghausen. Upon retirement, he moved back to his native Franconia. He remained deeply committed to birds of prey and owls throughout his life and was actively involved in their protection in many ways.
