About the Author

Philip Alsen

Philip Alsen is an author, hunter, and falconer. He also breeds Magyar Vizslas under the kennel name "Vom Holsteiner Brook." He lives with his five dogs, two birds of prey, a dozen chickens, and a few quail in southern Schleswig-Holstein, on the outskirts of a small village: "And I look forward every day to being out in the hunting grounds with my dogs."
As a breeder, he views the increasing popularity of Vizslas, which are becoming trendy dogs in some places, with a critical eye. As a dog owner, however, he fully understands the enthusiasm for the "Red Hungarians": "A good Vizsla is not just a dog. He is a gift and a real enrichment for life."
