About the Author
Katrin Juliane Schiffer
Dr. agr. Katrin Juliane Schiffer from Quakenbrück in Northern Germany, born in 1979, studied ecological agricultural sciences at the University of Kassel Witzenhausen, with a particular interest in animal husbandry and ethology. After a Christian-influenced reverence for life became her guiding principle early on, she was finally able to dedicate her doctorate to a heartfelt wish – a more humane treatment of farm animals on the day of slaughter.
Katrin Juliane Schiffer lives with her family, cats, ponies, and chickens, including the Bjurholmshöns, a landrace long thought to be extinct, on a small farm in northern Sweden. She has been working at Eldrimner, the Swedish Competence Center for Food Craft, since 2014.
