Ellis Kaut

Born in Stuttgart in 1920, Ellis Kaut grew up in Munich from 1922, where she first studied acting and later sculpture. As early as the beginning of the 1960s, she invented the stories about the small, mischievous kobold Pumuckl. First broadcast as a radio play by Bayerischer Rundfunk, the Pumuckl stories were also popular with children as books, records, and a television series. In 1955, Ellis Kaut was awarded the Bavarian Radio Play Prize and later the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class. The author recently lived largely withdrawn from the public near Munich. The multi-award-winning author died in September 2015 shortly before her 95th birthday.
